What’s your shooting style on wedding day?
My style is quite discrete. That’s the best way to describe it I think. In my opinion, good event photographers should generally stay out of the way. I use an off-camera, wireless lighting workflow (Strobist). This is the best way to light a venue, both logistically and aesthetically. It also keeps those blinding bursts of flash away from you and your guests.
I direct and ask for poses whenever necessary, but I’m first and foremost a documentary photographer. I love capturing genuine moments, authentically candid. I think that’s how real magic can be conjured through a lens.
How many photos can I expect?
I typically deliver 500-600 images. All images are individually edited.
When do I get my pics?
Full turn-around time is typically 4-6 weeks. I deliver 100 or so photos digitally within a couple of days, and many more during the first couple of weeks. This part always makes my clients happy.
Will I be able to print the photos myself?
I always give clients, and in turn their guests, full print-release. The photos are meant to be yours, not mine, and I encourage clients to make their own prints. Low prices and convenience make it a no brainer, and lots of labs do great work inexpensively these days. If, however, you are looking for very high quality prints, I’m happy to assist you in the process. I use Holland Photo in Austin. They’re the best. I also own a dye-based printer capable of printing a small number of extraordinary fine art prints up to 13X19 on your choice of paper.
I also provide online proofing services for you and your guests through a third-party.
What equipment do you use?
I shoot Canon and have used every digital body since the 20D. My cameras of choice for weddings today are the 5DmIII, 6D and 7d – and always carry at least three camera bodies with me. I have a large inventory of lenses ranging from 10 to 400mm in focal length, with my faves being the Canon 35L, 135L and 20-700L II 2.8. I light using upwards of five wireless Canon Speedlites . I push the technical boundaries of digital image acquisition at a wedding — this is one of the aspects of the day I enjoy most. Feel free to contact me with any technical or logistical questions you may have.
How did you get into weddings?
I earned a degree from The University of Texas at Austin in Economics/Finance and started my career with BP ….. So that wasn’t it 🙂
After my stint in Big Oil, I moved back to Austin and before long, I began a two year apprenticeship with a large, established wedding photography studio that shot over 300 weddings a year. I started off second shooting/assisting but soon progressed and really got my feet wet documenting some gorgeous weddings. My passion for art, technology, photography and the human connection has been many, many years in the making though:)
Do you do weddings full time?
No. I take on a limited number of wedding commissions every year. Some of my creative work outside of weddings can be viewed here.
Do you save the photographs from my wedding day?
Absolutely. All of your files, from the digital negatives to compressed versions suitable for the web are digitally secured. Actually, two copies are saved on separate hard disks in separate locations. I take digital storage/safekeeping more seriously than most. This also allows me to quickly retrieve and re-edit a photo for a client anytime down the road.
Where’s the best place to see recent work?
The Blog is a good place for that. I’ll feature new weddings, along with other random stuff from time to time. I have a very large number of photos in various portfolio galleries to give potential clients a real sense of the type of work I produce. Featured recent weddings can be seen here and here
I’m digging the interactive stuff on the site. What’s up with that?
I actively work in web design/development and really enjoy incorporating the latest in web technology into my workflow. As a result, my clients always have some of the best interactive albums around to share their special day.
Are you insured?
Yes, please let me know if your venue needs my info.
How can I book you?
